IIN-ELS participates in the National Meeting of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Health

The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) participated in the month of May in the I National Meeting of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Health (ENEIS). The event was the result of a partnership between Bahiana School of Medicine and Public Health, Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology Baiano (IFBaiano), National Industrial Learning Service (SENAI/CIMATEC) It is State University of Bahia (UNEB). The objective of the organizers was to integrate professionals from academia, government and companies to elaborate new solutions in products and technologies that improve the quality of patient care.

The research coordinator of the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS), Edgard Morya, presented at ENEIS the potential of neuroengineering to generate new products and companies, mainly in the area of rehabilitation. He showed basic and applied research results developed at the IIN-ELS and other renowned scientific institutions that apply brain-machine interface to help in the treatment of diseases such as autism It is Parkinson's. “These works may give rise to new equipment or treatment protocols for these disorders,” explains Morya.

Technologies that humanize health care

 

The Meeting also featured good examples of technological innovations in the area of health that are already available to society. An example of this is the smartphone application my doctor, which connects physicians, patients and healthcare professionals to streamline communication and decrease the number of unnecessary returns to hospitals and health clinics. This application identifies the patient and stores his/her history of exams, allergies, medications, etc. to help the medical team make the quickest and safest decision.

To the coordinator of the undergraduate course in Medicine at the Bahiana School of Medicine and Public Health, Ana Veronica Mascarenhas, the event served to, among other objectives, highlight the importance of combine technology with humanization, meeting large demands such as the Unified Health System (SUS). The 1st National Meeting of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Health was supported by the Ministry of Education (MEC), National Foundation for the Development of Private Higher Education (Funadesp), Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation of the State of Bahia and Foundation for Research Support of the State of Bahia (Fapesb).
