Sowing the Future: The First of Many Years of Science for Social Transformation

Posted in March 29, 2019

March 29, 2019 marks a very special moment for the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD): O Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS) now have the Baobab of Science, collectively planted on this day by professionals, masters/masters in neuroengineering, scientific initiation students and multiprofessional residents of the Santos Dumont Institute, as well as representatives of the quilombola community of Capoeiras, students and professors from UFRN.

The action integrates the activities to commemorate the first year of the IIN-ELS in its new headquarters.

Whoever plants a Baobab may never enjoy its shade or be able to embrace its trunk. The millennial tree may be the only living witness of time immemorial. To mark the first anniversary of the new home of the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neurosciences, the Science Baobab was planted to symbolize the hope, resistance and strength of neuroscientist Miguel Nicolelis' idea that science can and should contribute to a more just and humane transformation of Brazilian social reality.
